I'm Gonna Be

WARNING: Possibly unpopular opinions ahead, most of which I chalk up to me being old.

Ok. With that said, I absolutely don't get Post Malone. Why is he popular at all? Every song of his sounds terrible. It's just him mumbling a bunch of gibberish into autotune. Most of the songs have a beat, which is fine, but then he tries to be a musician all the time too. Now, all this might be just because I'm too old to understand what the "kids" like these days, but, I don't know. I don't understand how anyone can listen to this and enjoy it at all. His latest album "Hollywood's Bleeding" was nothing at all different. I had this opinion on him ever since I heard him, and this album didn't disprove or do anything to change my mind/attitude toward him. The absolute worst song on the album was "I'm Gonna Be," which after hearing it I was like, "I'm Gonna Be," more like I'm Gonna Be Sick. I was really hoping this album would flop, so that we could get this dude out of our lives, but he someone has been at the top of the chart for two straight weeks already :(

Anyway, as far as fantasy football goes I lost in three leagues, but did manage to hang on for a third straight win in dynasty, pushing me (as the only undefeated team) into first place! I dropped to fourth in my main redraft league after a tough loss this week. I'm still sitting in third in my auction league. Lastly, my autodraft league. Ugh. I'm in last as the only 0-3.

Without You

I stumbled upon a very surprising and pleasant album when perusing the new releases on Spotify, and that was Joseph's "Good Luck, Kid." While a bit of the album is a bit boring and a bit too hipster cliche, most of the album is actually a really great folk/country/rock blend that really works. The all-girl trio is signed to ATO Records, which is the famous label for monster indie acts like Brandi Carlile, My Morning Jacket and Alabama Shakes, so it isn't really a stretch that Joseph would be good. I will continue to listen to this album, but on first blush I'm sort of a fan, yet I don't really know why. I will also be checking out more of the band's catalog.

As far as fantasy football goes, I went 3-1 once again. I'm 2-0 in both of my redraft leagues (Auction and snake) and 2-0 in dynasty, putting me in first, third and second in those leagues respectively. I am 0-2 in my autodraft league despite that I'm third in points scored, so that's just unlucky.

Highwomen

 Recently-formed country supergroup The Highwomen released the group's first album, a self-titled debut that is nothing short of remarkable. Unlike the all-female reboot of Ghostbusters, this one works. It highlights all the strengths of the great women in the group (Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires). Some serious writing and singing chops are involved, and this is most definitely a refreshing release in the era of bro-country trash. Thank you.

Fantasy week one is complete and I went 3-1, with my only loss coming by a small margin on a good week. Just had a bad matchup there. Thus far, it appears my instincts have served me pretty well.

Juice

So, thanks to the MTV VMA's I discovered Lizzo, and she is freaking amazing. The Minneapolis-raised singer/rapper has such catchy and infectious songs. She's also a great singer. I am so obsessed, and her album "Cuz I Love You" has the Minneapolis sound, and is super good. Check it out.

Fantasy football is about to begin, and I'm super jacked. I feel like I drafted two really good teams. However, my autodraft league team sucks because I forgot to take Andrew Luck out of my rankings :( I'll keep you updated on my progress this season.
