This Land

One of the musical genius' of our time, Gary Clark Jr., recently released an album of his masterpieces called "This Land." The title track, which is also the first, really sets the tone for a magnificent piece of art. Clark is a multi-genre artist, using hip-hop, rock, funk, jazz, etc. to tell stories. For example, the lyric "It's hard out there for a lady/Sometimes the grass is way too deep/Now women/become mothers so our babies get to eat/What do you call the struggle when the cycle is complete?" from the song "Feed the Babies." Most of all the tracks have an incredible groove, and are impossible not to at minimum bob the listeners head. I have to say that Childish Gambino owes GCJ a lot, but GCJ also owes a ton to Prince, so it lives on. This is certainly another possibility for 2019 Album of the Year. Expect Grammy's.

Anyhow, I have about 30 or so photos from Feb. 14-19. Enjoy.

Taste

An indie pop darling, Betty Who recently independently released "Betty." It is a masterpiece in what a pop album should sound like. There is an overwhelming variety of straight pop, dark pop and light, fluffy pop, all oozing sensuality. It crosses several eras of pop music with clear disco influence, 80's pop influence and indie influences. It is emotional, raw, but without being difficult to listen to. I urge a listen if you are at all a fan of pop or indie music of any era. My favorite track was "Taste," but others like "Between You & Me" and "I remember" were also definite highlights.

I have a smaller number of photos than usual due to weather :( Here is what I did manage to photograph from hockey and girls basketball all on Feb. 12.
